Infused with stones? This certainly plays the minerality card in spades, so to speak, and has a great long aftertaste. One of the most exciting Marlborough Sauvignons to have come my way. Lightness of touch. Minimal sweetness. The year was described by the laconic Kevin Judd (ex Cloudy Bay winemaker) as 'a very orderly and rewarding harvest'. Bit of elderflower blossom into the bargain. Yes, I think I probably would pay the money for this jewel that is ready to gobble already. Long and sinewy. It might last longer though I don't really see any point in cellaring it into 2013. 13.5%

Wild Sauvignon 2009

As the name suggests, the 2009 Wild Sauvignon was naturally fermented in French oak barriques, 10% new, and aged for 12 months with occasional lees stirring. About 2/3 of the barrels underwent malo-lactic. It displays yeasty / toasty notes of freshly baked bread and toasted almonds over fresh grapefruit juice, kumquats, passion fruit and mandarin peel plus hints of cedar, coriander seed and dill.
Medium bodied and wonderfully concentrated, it has a beautiful satiny texture, invigorating acidity and a very long, layered finish. Kevin Judd takes Marlbourough Sauvignon to new heights with this one!
Drinking very nicely now, it's of that style that could age very well and I'd recommend putting a few bottles away in the cellar for 5 years or so and enjoying it to 2016+ 

Λίγα λόγια για το "Greywacke"

Εδώ και λίγους μήνες εισάγονται στη Ελλάδα τα κρασιά του οινοποιείου Greywacke.
Τι είναι όμως το Greywacke? και ποιος βρίσκεται πίσω από αυτό?
Greywacke είναι το όνομα του νέου οινοποιείου του Kevin Judd.
Ο Kevin Judd είναι ο ιδρυτής οινοποιός του Cloudy Bay και ο άνθρωπος που ευθύνεται για τις πρώτες 25 οινοποιήσεις ενός από τα πιο εμβληματικά Sauvignon Blanc της Νέας Ζηλανδίας.
Από το 2009 ο Kevin φτιάχνει το δικό του κρασί. Το όνομα αυτού: "Greywacke".
Το όνομα αυτό το εμπνεύστηκε από ένα πέτρωμα (γκρίζος ψαμμίτης) που συναντάται ευρέως σε όλη τη Νέα Ζηλανδία.
Τα σταφύλια για τα κρασιά του κτήματος προέρχονται από μικρούς επιλεγμένους αμπελώνες στις πεδιάδες Wairau, Woodbourne, και Renwick στο νότιο Marlborough. Από τα σταφύλια αυτά και μετά από προσεγμένη και ιδιαίτερη οινοποίηση παράγονται εξαιρετικά κρασιά που σε μόλις δύο χρόνια κυκλοφορίας έχουν λάβει εξαιρετικές κριτικές.
Τα κρασιά Greywacke είναι τολμηρά, πλούσια, πολύπλοκα και πάνω απ' όλα εκλεπτυσμένα, ενώ πολλοί θεωρούν ότι το Greywacke είναι το νέο μεγάλο σύμβολο της Νέας Ζηλανδίας.
Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι ο Kevin Judd είναι γνωστός φωτογράφος με εξειδίκευση στο κρασί και το αμπέλι, έχει εκδώσει και δύο σχετικά βιβλία, το "The colour of wine" & "The landscape of New Zealnd wine" ενώ αυτές οι εξαιρετικές φωτογραφίες κοσμούν και τις ετικέτες των φιαλών.
